Here’s the long version!
Friday:
Eye doctor says no issues with the Retinas and I can continue my life > Work > finally picked up my Jetta after two months being under repair, $3350 dam! They did a great job and it runs strong. Then went to > Nortons Vault with Caryn and Andy for a drink and some pub food. Said Hello to Jeff as he worked the bar then went over to the > The Harlot to hang out with Todd Stern, he was having a little celebration for getting a new gig. The people in the crowd were a bit older and Caryn and I felt young! Whoo hoo! It was a bit loud so we were ready for some dessert and took off to > Mitchelles for SF’s favorite ice cream. Per our tradition Andy, Caryn, and I took a quick walk over to the > The Front Porch. I was really wanting a cask conditioned ale but they were out and substituted a porter instead > Andy had to get up early so we dropped him off and Caryn and I went over to > Yield wine bar in the dog patch. The place is cozy, mellow, dimly lit with a neigborhood feel to it. We had a Syrah and a Merlot both were really nice tasting wines. Caryn ordered a three cheese plate with very distinct and flavorful cheese. It was getting late so we mosied on > home
Saturday
I woke up early to chat with Wei it was really good we connected quite well and it warmed my heart > I need to pick up my truck as I had left it at the repair shop the night before when I had picked up my car. I rode my bike Bike 30 minutes through Downtown to the Dog Patch > I then pickup the truck and went home showered and decided that the Jetta need to be taken to the car wash which was next to Reid and Jenn’s place it was perfect as we decided to go shooting at > Jackson arms. It was the first time shooting a gun for Jenn, she was a little taken back from the concussion waves given off from the other guns around her at the indoor range. Reid and I really didn’t think to explain what it would be like next time. We shot a Glock 9mm and an SKS. Jenn opted out of the rifle but did quite well with the handgun. We were starving and headed back to SF, I suggested > The House of Nanking. It’s interesting place because with the owner comes over and says “What would you like?” You can rebut with, please bring us dinner for 3. Then he makes an order and brings you a mystery meal. We tried to figure out what was in each dish as we ate it, took notes, and maybe we’ll attempt to cook it soon. As we finished up we planned our next stop. Reid had told me about this local dive bar in NOPA / Western Addition called > Bar 821 We headed over to check it out. It was chill, interesting, but a little slow for us so we finished up one round of beers and headed over to > Fly bar It was louder there, but definitely more lively. We had a long discussion on what were the things we wanted to do before we died. Notable ones were Sky dive, Mile high club, and climb el capitan once we were done with our drinks we were off to > NOPA’s this was the end for Reid. He had two chimay blue’s and they basically put him on his butt haha! Jenn enjoyed some crispy aioli fries when Reid suggested going to a speak easy so we went to > Bourbon and Branch in the Tenderloin. My choice to go here was a bad suggestion. The place was packed people were lined up a the bar and the bartenders couldn’t keep up. We left as promptly as we arrived. On friday night Caryn had said how she wanted to go to this bar that was supposed to be a total high school prom bar / dive wedding place in the Fairmont hotel called the > Tonga Room and wow what a dive it was. They had a horrible cover band floating in a boat in the middle of a pool which was supposed to be a lake. It was all we could do but stand there with our mouths open agape at a drunk wedding party dancing to the horrible renditions of what used to be good music. What a spectacle, you should go if you have never been! It was time for Reid to hit the hay so I dropped them off and headed off to > The District Wine Bar to meet Tony, Jack, Julie, Paitom?, Kim, Markus and Annalynn. We enjoyed many pictures and a few happily intoxicated friends. After the fun we all were ready for diner food and popped over to > Sparkys where we made plans to go snowboaring and had an enjoyable social time. 03:45 time to head home!
Sunday!
Mike called me at 09:15 making sure I was still up for a mtn bike ride with his buddies Dave and Lenny at China Camp. I could barely keep up with them. They had to wait for me after every hill. It was a quality ride, technically challenging, a few steep climbs and few fast downhills. I would love to go again. The best part of the trip was as at the end Dave and I worked together to pass Mike for the photo finish. A Sweet victory sucker punch! > we got back to SF and Dave suggested going to climb at > Mission Cliffs where Mike got me in on his free pass! Thanks Mike. It was a good time. Both Mike and Dave were much stronger climbers than I. Dave kindly let me know that there was no initiation fee to become a member at Mission Cliffs. So, I’ll be signing up later this week. After a few hours of climbing I attempted a 5.11a which I failed at, but it was really fun and motivating! Dave suggested we go grab a beer after the climbs. A happy fellow Mike joined us for social hour and we went to > The Latin American club Fraya was working it was nice to see her again, we chatted about life and what was going on. She’ll be moving back to SF shortly, and was really happy about it. The Commute from Oakland was just weighing on her. Dave, Mike and Mike spoke of a few incredible stories about women, climbing, and travel. It was time to call it a day. Off to a quick Mexican bite to eat and then bed. In the car on the drive home Wei and I chatted about us and I got the hint she was done with me. Not the happiest ending but important to note as it was part of the day.
