Physical Clarity

Never underestimate how clear ones mind can become through a strenuous workout or a precise activity taking 100% concentration. I’ve hit some bumpiness in my life and I can tell you that when the mind races to solve the unsolvable it is to ones own detriment. Buddha’s meditation is key abet hard to attain for the undisciplined mind. My work around to this is strenuous, focused physical activity. Something that could cause severe injury seems to really help the mind to not think of anything. Although a focused event lacking injury or death can also work.

I lifted and bouldered tonight and it was so helpful to clear my mind. I feel much better.

How much stuff can you really do in one weekend?

Sugarbowl solo!, Soda Springs CA

I woke up from a good night sleep at Trevor’s pad (thanks Trev!) Cooper wanted to give me Trevor’s boot but I think it was like 10 sized to big for me. I got up, chilled out with Spence, Trevor and Jeff but couldn’t get the 40’s out for the day to ride so I went to the mountain solo. The weather was epic it was a sunny and not to cold but the snow was still fast. I arrived around 10:30 and road about seven runs up and down the Lincoln lift. Met two dudes on the lift, Derek and Tim. Derek was all charged up and excited about the day, Tim was a bit mellow, I decided to ask if I could ride with them. We took some bomber runs, and they seemed to have some pretty good skills. After the third run, I realized that they were drinking rum and coke’s. After the sixth run they crashed out at the bottom, took out two cigarettes and said their legs were killing them! I initially was thinking that the cigarettes weren’t likely help their legs recover from the bombing run, but i didn’t say it out loud.

“So I am going to take a few more runs, you guys in or out?”

“ummmm I think were out man.”

I let them know it was nice to meet them and took off for MORE!

I road about six more and called it a day, and jetted out at 14.30

Got back to SF by 18.30 and had dinner with Reid, Andy and Jenn at nice Pho place in the Sunset.

The key snowboarding learning gained from this weekend.

Weigh distribution in steeps and bumps

Key for me not to get to far over my lead leg

What happens here is my weight gets to far forward and then I have to compensate by pulling my rear leg up against the snowboard to prevent me from falling over forward

Pulling down on the leg is not good for the hip joint!

Jump turns for bumps (this post makes onlys sence to me)

So I really need to video this because i am even having a hard time understanding what i did that felt correct. the below is just for me, i’ll create an updated post another day.

To effectively ride bumps I have to make little jump turns. I do this as I hit bump about half way down from the top (of the bump.) As I hit that and I enter the next bump by making a jump turn in the air and use the next bump to slow yourself down.

Sugarbowl, Soda Springs CA

So I decided today to post more often and with less critical writing. I plan on trying to have pictures, but if I don’t I’ll post anyway.

Went to Sugarbowl with Spencer, Trevor and Jeff. Great day, and had a lot of fun. Jeff and Spencer were a little tired but Trevor was both a great Teli skier and really good on a hard boot board. No pictures, totally sucks about that be we ripped the mountain.

Went into the cliff area got stuck in a bad spot, had to scoot over to the side to avoid a nice rock farm, I might have been a little bit of a pussy, but some might have called me smart. Still a good ride in the steep area.

We had beers at the bar after then went for mexican food!

Staying at Trevor’s parents house, maybe we will go snowboarding again tomorrow!
